12/19/07 LED Lights

It's beginning to look a lot like a "Green" Christmas. Naturally, (do forgive the pun) the White House Christmas Tree is decked this year in LED lights. Now Some little elf, (a true greenie) explained to me that a string of 25 of my white lights (never EVER colored thank you ) uses 125 watts while the same LED string burns only 2.3 watts. Naturally, (oops did it again) I imagined LEDs would be like the energy saving bulbs I use in my barn meaning I need a flash light to shovel manure but I learned the new LEDS created from semi conductors not traditional filters really sparkle and for those who do like a Chevy Chase display they come in a rainbow of colors. LED lights have only been on the market a little over a year, and the initial higher cost offsets the fact they can last over ten. The Allen family for one would have a much merrier Christmas without blown fuses, the frantic search for the one burnt out tiny light, always in the rose bush or even worse&. the hunt for dreaded red and white flasher.
