11/20/07 Night Before Thanksgiving

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and with Thanksgiving here I was asked for recommendations of what wines to serve the evening before. Join me today as we talk the night before the feast. When I began discussing traditional holiday meals with my friends, we veered off to the topic of the evening prior to the big feast. The fact that so many of us had out of town guests arriving was now creating a very interesting new topic - the meal before the day of feasting - and of course the wines to go with it. What I have always done is try to keep it simple and let people eat when and how much they want by serving a buffet. A crockpot of soup, or a side of baked salmon served at room temperature with salad and crusty breads, cheese with pickled vegetables is simple. You can pour just about any wine you like, although, I focus on pouring lower alcohol Riesling and light red wines. Don't go overboard with the food as you know everyone is probably planning to save themselves for the next day. You may want to have a nice warm spiced Riesling in a warmer or on low over the stovetop to offer as a beverage that evening. Again the intention is getting together and creating great memories around food and beverage. So eat and drink what you like all in moderation because you want to be in good shape for the main event the next day! Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
