11/21/07 Leftovers

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and this week the holidays are officially here. Along with that you know will come the inevitable leftovers. You may ask "what wine goes best with leftover Thanksgiving faire?" In just a moment we will chat about just that subject. The inevitable Thanksgiving leftovers and the wines that go with them is one of my favorite topics. For some of us the Thanksgiving leftovers are one of the things we enjoy most about this holiday. I for one take it very seriously. Of course there is the turkey sandwich and of course the turkey soup and the favorite at our house turkey pot pie. I recently heard of using leftover turkey in pot stickers. What a great idea and a way to have fun with everyone pitching in to pinch the little pouches. With sandwiches I serve the wines - light reds, Rose and Riesling - that I served with dinner. Along with the pot pies I pour Syrah and with soup I am a fan of Sauvignon Blanc or Viognier. I plan to try pot stickers this year and I will serve Riesling of Gewurztraminer. The recipes vary for all of the uses of leftovers and we like individual pot pies because we can each make our own pie and put whatever suits our taste most under the crust. It turns into a casual and fun evening of celebration all over again. Because the pies are usually quite savory you can serve richer more hearty red wines and fuller body whites. From all of us producing this program at Allen Media we wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
