Florida, Alabama, and Georgia Announce Ag Milestones
From honoring agricultural leaders to expanding dairy opportunities and boosting rural innovation, Florida, Alabama, and Georgia are each celebrating milestones in agriculture. In Florida, Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson and the Florida Agricultural Hall of Fame Foundation announced Woody Larson, Dennis Wedgworth, and Jack Vogel as the 2026 Hall of Fame inductees. Since 1980, the Hall has recognized men and women who have shaped agriculture and invested in the next generation.
In Alabama, Commissioner Rick Pate presented a $1.9 million grant to Miller Family Dairy in Colbert County. The first-generation farm opened in 2020 as a raw milk operation with just eight cows. With the new funding, the Millers will expand to around 100 cows, build a facility to pasteurize milk, and produce butter and cheese. Just as important, the project is designed to create opportunities for other dairy producers at a time when only 16 dairies remain in Alabama.
And, in Georgia, the Rural Center for Innovation and Prosperity has officially transitioned to the Department of Agriculture, now under the leadership of new Executive Director Charles “Charlie” Fiveash.
