Farm and Ranch November 9, 2007 The Washington State Potato Foundation is currently seeking nominations for the Industry Leadership Award. This award, given now for 4 years, recognizes an individual from within the potato industry whose efforts and leadership have made a significant and positive impact in agriculture, specifically within the potato industry.
Washington State Potato Foundation Executive Director Kelle Balcom says nominations are being accepted from the general public until December 28th.
Balcom: "To nominate somebody all we need is a simple little essay, a letter or little nomination of a couple hundred words that says why that person would be worthy of receiving such a recognition."
Balcom says they are seeking nominations for some of those committed, hard working, visionary people, whose labor and talent have made Washington potatoes the three-billion dollar industry that it is today.
Balcom: "Last year we recognized we recognized the late Pete Taggares. Prior to that we recognized the 1956 Washington State Potato Commission. That was the founding commission. Also Gary Pelter and Dennis Conley have also been recognized."
The winner will be recognized at the Potato Industry Banquet held in conjunction with the Washington State Potato Conference and Trade Show in February. Nomination packets are available from Balcom at kbalcom@potatoes.com
