10/16/07 Guardian Angel

"Never ride faster than your guardian angel can fly". I'm Jeff Keane I'll return after this. This quote is just a simple reminder to slow down and enjoy the scenery, maybe take time to smell the sage? Don't you think Becky? For me, Jeff it often seems my guardian angel has me by of the heels of my boots dragging me full speed ahead. And a recent trail ride helped confirm my suspicions. What was supposed to be a relaxing adventure turned into a marathon. Six years young and miles of wet saddle pads one would assume my horse would be fairly trained. Yeah Becky, but you and I both know where assumptions will get you. Your right, and while this ride started like most outings with a good friend, and a couple of nice horses, my plans quickly changed. Upon mounting, my trusty steed was feeling just a little thick through the middle. But in the spirit of every true Cowgirl, I road it out, made a few circles, checked for breaks and nodded to my riding accomplice I was ready to hit the road, hopefully right side up. Out on the trail looking for every boogy man in the sage my horse started to shrink back to his normal size. But, an hour in it became clear this outing was less about enjoying the scenery and more about a little training on what I know some day, will be a trustworthy saddle horse. Well Becky until then it sounds like you and your guardian angel might have many more, long rides resulting in a wet saddle pads, hey you'll get to see more country this way, I'm Jeff Keane.
