10/4/07 Freedom of Speech but Whose

The President of Iran's recent visit to Columbia University got me thinking about our purported freedom of speech, or the lack there of. Freedom of speech in the US today has become a joke, something other countries like Iran and Syria mock. How can our nation remain a world leader when Columbia University won't allow our own military men and women to speak on campus yet provides our enemy a podium? Ahmandinejad's speech wasn't free. We will pay dearly with more of our personal freedoms for the sad fact naïve college students honored this tyrant with applause. Abuse of "free speech" is reflected in today's media in movies and on TV. Names the majority of Americans hold dear; God, Jesus and Mary have become common swear words no longer restricted. Makes me wonder why we don't curse in the name of Allah, Krishna or Buddha? If Freedom of speech truly exists, I say it's time to test the boundaries a tad, so next time I stub my toe I am going to angrily shout out ##**!!! Mohamed & Allah!!!
