10/3/07 Pigmy Rabbits and Spotted Owls

I live where pigmy rabbits, not buffalo used to roam. There has been an ongoing struggle in the greater Columbia Basin to save what bunnies remain of this critically endangered species. Out of the 111 in a captive breeding program only 83 survived while numerous babies' bunnies succumbed to disease prior to being released this past summer. The last of the 20 pygmy rabbits turned loose on their own private bunny bungalow's died Wednesday unable to survive even on a handpicked and protected habitat. The death devastated wildlife biologists yet begs the question of when is enough enough? How many tax payers' dollars must be spent to attempt to sustain an obviously unsustainable species? The irony is that evolution believing environmentalist manipulate plants and animals in a vain attempt at playing God rather than allowing "evolution" to take it's course! Text books teach our children survival of the fittest yet in reality the scales are continually weighted for the unfit; the pygmy rabbits, the spotted owls that continue to succumb despite mans intervention.
