Remember when every American dog grew up on Purina dog chow& and table scraps? Today feeding a dog is no longer simple with enough store brand, premium or organic products to overwhelm the most conscientious owner. Companion pet food is now a 15 billion dollar industry with companies investing over 200 million each year just on advertising to convince us that our dogs need their product. Pet nutrition has become the field of choice for savvy Animal Science undergrads because dog food, like the typical dogs' lifestyle is continually evolving. No longer "free range" most dogs live in confined environments. Diet is an important component of a successful dog experience. A high protein count found in premium foods equates to higher digestibility and can be the difference between a dog that can make it though the work day without soiling the house and one that can't. The pet food category is growing and trend experts expect it to continue to mimic human eating patterns meaning soon we will have personalized feeding options and even fresh dog food for fido.
