The mystique of the mustang draws many horse enthusiasts to wild horse adoptions looking for that one special animal to rescue but did you know that adoption isn't the only method there is to help the wild horses. I'm Jeff Keane and I'll be back after the break with how a car named for a horse has already saved over 2000 of them. The Bureau of Land Management and the Ford Motor Corporation, have teamed up to develop program designed to provide long term support for thousands of wild horses. Here's Becky to fill you in.
Jeff, both cattlemen and environmentalist concur that a certain number of wild horses must be removed from the range to protect the habitat from over grazing. It's the How they can't seem to agree on and this is where the Ford Motor Company, and their mustang has stepped in to help. Less than a year ago Ford established the Save the Mustang Fund in conjunction with BLM as part of the Take Pride in America partnership. Ford quickly moved to save 2000 horses in jeopardy and to date horse lovers have donated over $200,000 that will go towards providing long-term support for thousands of wild horses placed in managed refuges. And so far The Save the Mustang website has educated over a million visitors to the plight facing our nation's wild horses.
Becky it's nice to see that there are some workable solutions in removing horses from the range and that Ford Motor company has stepped up to help. In the words of CEO Bill Ford "The wild mustang embodies the passion, spirit and heritage that are an integral part of the American experience." I'm Jeff Keane.
