08/20/07 Healthy County Fair Food ?

What kind of a world are we living in where even county fair food is required to be healthy? Isn't the whole point going of going to the fair to indulge in goodies you can't have at home; elephant ears, cotton candy, corn dogs? Now the Puyallup Fair is trans fat free and I say yuck! Starting this year one of our nations largest county fairs will become like New York City, Safeco Field and numerous restaurant chains and ban man made trans fat. Naturally, (forgive the pun) the move to abolish trans fat seems admirable requiring fair vendors to simply change their cooking oil to comply. Yet I wonder when this food policing will end ? Will buttery movie popcorn be the next target? Some things are just a fixture of American life and shouldn't be tampered with, like greasy fair food. I certainly don't appreciate someone dictating my choice of food because someone else can't control theirs. So if you see a gal with her hands full of Indian fry bread and cotton candy at your local county fair it's probably me , be sure to say hi! .
