08/15/07 Wine & Music

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. On today's show we are going to discuss what wine to drink when you listen to your favorite music. A few weeks back I missed an event which I truly wanted to attend. My local Wine Society held an evening of wine paired to music. Now this is right up there for me because after food and wine music is one of my favorite things in life. I had never consciously paired music to wine however, I think it all falls into the category of mood things. I drink lots of different wines and I listen to quite a variety of music it all just depends upon what I am in the mood for. I received the book "Alpana Pours" written by Chicago's Master Sommelier Alpana Singh. In the book she devotes a section to wines to drink when you are engaging in solitary activities, like when listening to 70's or 80's pop music try Rhone wines she claims the spiciness goes well with the upbeat temp. If listening to Hip Hop have a glass of Malbec as it is full of beep brooding fruit and matches the lyrics. Classical music? - why Bordeaux of course, so rich and traditional. Now she doesn't just recommend wine for music she also recommends wine for television my favorite is Riesling while watching Reality TV she feels the crisp acidity exemplifies the contempt the contestants have for one another. Okay so maybe it isn't much of a science but I do think you can pick the music to match the mood as well as the wine. I know I love something I can dance to whenever I have a glass of bubbly. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at Vine to Wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
