07/20/07 New Favorite Wine

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and as many of you know, my new favorite wine is usually the wine that is in my glass at the time. I just don't waste my time drinking wines that I do not like. As it is summer, I have been drinking a lot of white wine and I have found a wine that is working out just great on these hot summer evenings. This summer I have been drinking quite a bit of Washington Viognier and I am finding it to be refreshing alone or with food. It has a beautiful perfume to the nose and a wide range of fresh clean flavors that are more satisfying to me than Chardonnay. I have found them to vary in styles and although differing they all seem to work with many of the summer dishes that we all enjoy most. I like a blend that has Viognier along with Semillon and Rousanne - it is made by Fidelitas a winery on Red Mountain here in Washington. J Bookwalter in Richland Washington adds Viognier to the Chardonnay and it is delightful. The combination of Viognier blended with other white grapes is one I am seeing often as Viognier is becoming more popular. Walla Walla is making some truly lovely Viognier such as the ones from Rulo Winery and Abeja. Take the time to search out a few of these wonderful wines being made in the state of Washington.
