Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and on today's program we are going to be answering a question from a class I taught last week. What wine goes with Pesto?
In a class I was teaching last week I was asked why none of the white wines went well with the pesto? I did the annoying thing and answered the question with questions. But it is true you must take into consideration What kind of pesto? What is the pesto on? And do you like red or white wine? Hey these are all important things to know & In this case it was a classic basil garlic pesto and the numbers of people who liked white wine with it were mixed. It is rather subjective but we did discover that the fruit forward wines whether white or red were best with the pesto. So, of course, for the white, I recommend good quality fruit forward Sauvignon Blanc or Italian Pinot Grigio. For red a simple wine with good fruit and good acid not too much oak. The student thought it was too predictable and wanted something different. I gave him a blank stare. I was not prepared for any alternatives based on the tasting we were doing my imagination could already taste it. I just smiled and said who cares just drink what you like. You know although I believe some wines go better with certain foods than others everyones tastes are different and I am not always sure anyone else at my table really cares. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at Vine to Wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
