Washington Wine Auction Part 2. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.
Washington Wine Commission has been celebrating Washington wines for 20 years with their annual wine auction. It is the largest charitable event in the state and according to the commission's Deborah Daoust it pays tribute to the local wineries.
DAOUST: It really is the whole wine industry so it's the grape growers as well as the wine makers and each year the auction honors two of its own; the honorary vintner is Brain Carter of Brian Carter Cellars and the honorary grower is Bill den Hoed.
Daoust says there are a great number of individual parts to the 3-day event and it kicks off Thursday, August 16th.
DAOUST: It starts off with a picnic in the evening on the grounds of Chateau St. Michele and lots of opportunities to try Washington wines, winemakers will be there pouring, they'll be some barrel tasting and there will also be a silent auction. It's all Washington wine related.
New this year is the Covey Run 10 and 5k run/walk on Saturday.
DAOUST: And then Saturday night is the big gala, fundraiser, live auction. They're auctioning a BMW car and just amazing, amazing wine lots of all kinds. You know events in different - you know weekends away in different regions of the state and lot and lots of great wines.
The charity event benefits uncompensated care at Children's Hospital & Regional Medical Center and the Washington Wine Education Foundation.
