Like the old days out West there is a war brewing over water rights. The stakes are high, 15 billion dollars and the outcome effects hundreds of water projects throughout the nation. The house passed the Water Resources Development Act and now the Senate is reworking their version . All was hunky dory in DC until Republicans discovered that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi included a measure that would authorize 25 million for developing port areas for her constitutes in San Francisco. Not a problem, except if your hubby happens to be a big one. Two years ago she also attempted to earmark big bucks for this development but the measure failed to pass. In her financial disclosure the repubs found that soon after t her hubby just happened to up his interests between 1 to 5 million in port property located a few blocks from the waterfront project. Republicans say this flys in the face of new ethics rules that insures lawmakers' own financial interests don't benefit from their requests. Demos say quit picking on poor Nancy and the mainstream media, they aren't saying anything at all. Nary a peep about the water wars. Imagine that!
