Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and on today's program we are settling a debate. Recently a couple wrote in to ask that I settle a point of confusion for them & "Is Rose a red wine, a white wine, or a blending of the two?"
Well, there are all kinds of ways to make a rose' wine, however, traditionally it is a wine made from red grapes. You see, the meat of most red grapes holds white juice, it is the skins that have the pigment or the color. If the grapes are handled gently and the skins are not broken too badly then not much color will be imparted to the juice. Or, if more color is desired, then perhaps the grapes are left on their skins for a longer period of time and more of the pigment is allowed to color the juice. These types of wines are produced in most of the major wine regions of the world and many are made in a very sophisticated dry style. Speaking of Rose, another listener writes to ask "what is the best wine to serve with my fresh bass this fishing season"? A dry Rose' wouldn't be a bad choice for your bass, but of course, it depends on how you cook it. Grilled over a campfire then I suggest Rose of Cabernet Franc, stuffed and bake then I suggest a Rose' made from Syrah or Merlot. But kudos to you for catching something! I say drink what you like with it. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
