02/09/07 New Canadian BSE & Who`s Running

New Canadian BSE Case & Look Who's running. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report. Canada is once again dealing with a reported case of BSE. Ag Secretary Mike Johanns said he doesn't expect this latest case to impact trade with Canada. The BSE virus was detected in a mature bull from Alberta. Jay Truitt - Vice President of Governmental Relations for the National Cattlemen's Beef Association - says his group wants the details on this latest case. TRUITT: The confirmation itself seems to get most of the headlines, it's the follow up activity over the next week or so that's really of paramount importance in our decision making. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has confirmed the diagnosis of that country's ninth case of BSE. Routine surveillance at the farm level detected the disease. No part of it entered the human food or animal feed systems. It's a presidential election year as if you hadn't noticed and it's beginning to seem like everyone is a candidate, from Hillary and Barack Obama to John Edwards and Al Gore. Al Gore? He has maintained that he is not running but long time supporters have been meeting to determine whether a presidential bid is in order. A recent New Hampshire poll had Gore in 4th place behind the aforementioned candidates. You might remember that Gore lost to George Bush in the messy 2000 election. Now here's today's Washington Grange Report. (GRANGE REPORT) That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
