Idaho wolf kill & New WTO Member. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.
Last week, Idaho`s governor Butch Otter said he will support public hunts to kill all but 100 of the state`s gray wolves after the federal government strips them of protection under the Endangered Species Act. He wants hunters to kill about 550 gray wolves. Otter complained that wolves are rapidly killing elk and other animals essential to Idaho`s multimillion-dollar hunting industry. The hunters, many wearing camouflage clothing and blaze-orange caps, applauded wildly during his comments. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service plans to start removing federal protections from gray wolves in Montana and Idaho in the next few weeks.
Vietnam is now the World Trade Organization's 150th member. Vietnam`s entry opens the door to increased trade and investment in the country. It also will mean increased access to foreign markets for Vietnam`s industries - and a neutral arbiter to hear disputes that arise with bigger - more powerful trading partners. In terms of population - Russia is the largest country still outside the WTO. Russia has been seeking membership for over a decade and is probably still at least a year away
Now with today's Food Forethought, here's Susan Allen.
Losers! That is what Colorado Governor Bill Owen called PETA, people for the Ethical Treatment of Animals on a recent Denver Radio show. He cites the fact the animal rights group's ethical treatment of animals goes only as far as their left wing anti-meat agenda . You see over 300,000 head of cattle and countless wildlife are starving to death in one of Colorado's worst winters. While PETA groupies prance around promoting the rights of lobsters, PETA adamantly refuses to dip into their vast resources to help air lift hay to stranded cattle . It is beyond hypocritical and it is absurdly cruel when PETA spokesperson Reannon Peterson's responded to the request with aide with& and I quote" You're going to save them, and then in six months they're going to be killed and end up on someone's plate. So I don't know that it's really the most noble cause." Regarding their apparent lack of empathy for starving cattle and wildlife, the same wildlife PETA berates sportsmen's for hunting, the Colorado Governor urged people to stop donating to a group that in his words is nothing but a fraud.
