Peanut and Tree Nut Sector Delivers Billions in Economic Impact
A new report is putting numbers behind the economic power of the U.S. nut industry.The Peanut and Tree Nut Processors Association has released its first-ever economic impact report, titled "Nut Numbers: The Economic Impact of the Nut Industry." According to the study, the industry contributes more than $148 billion to the U.S. economy each year and supports more than half a million jobs.
The report also breaks down impacts by state. In Georgia, the nut industry contributes more than $8.17 billion annually. Alabama's impact is estimated at nearly $380 million, while Florida's tops $384 million.
Nationwide, the industry contributes $15.7 billion in taxes and supports nearly $10.7 billion in annual exports.
The report also highlights strong demand for nuts from food manufacturers, including candy, bakery, ice cream, and dough mix companies.
