Newsom Spotlights Agriculture Efforts
California marked Agriculture Day this week, with Governor Gavin Newsom highlighting the industry’s role in the state’s economy and sustainability efforts. In a release from his office, the governor recognized farmers, ranchers, and agricultural workers for their contributions to feeding the nation and supporting local communities across the state. The announcement also pointed to progress in expanding access to locally grown food. Officials said California had built one of the most expansive farm-to-family pipelines in the nation, pairing large-scale investments with policy changes that moved more California-grown food into schools, communities, and households in a more direct and consistent way.
At the same time, the governor expressed concern over the ongoing war abroad, saying its impacts continued to affect global food supply chains and costs for producers. In the release, Newsom said, “We remain troubled by the continued conflict and its ripple effects on food security and economic stability.”
State leaders said they planned to continue supporting agricultural communities while navigating ongoing global challenges.
