There is an opportunity here in the state of California for farmers, ranchers, and growers. Specifically, it is looking at tackling one of agriculture’s biggest threats: invasive species.

Body:

When voters approved Proposition 4 in 2024, it included 20 million dollars dedicated to addressing invasive pests, plants, and diseases. The California Department of Food and Agriculture is partnering with the Invasive Species Council of California to develop grant guidelines that will support projects minimizing economic, ecological, and human health impacts. A public webinar on April 29 from 3 to 4:30 pm will give farmers, ranchers, and stakeholders the opportunity to review and comment on those draft guidelines. Karen Ross, California Agriculture Secretary and co-chair of the Invasive Species Council of California, said, “Invasive pests and diseases are a constant concern for farmers and ranchers.” Wade Crowfoot, California Secretary for Natural Resources and co-chair of the Invasive Species Council of California, said, “They destroy infrastructure, eat crops, and spread disease.”

The webinar is April 29. Comments will be taken through May 29. For all of the details, head to https://pressreleases.cdfa.ca.gov/Home/PressRelease/68426444
