Turning Research Into Results for California Agriculture
California agriculture is facing some big questions right now. Water challenges, climate pressures, and rapidly changing technology are all shaping the future of the industry.A statewide effort is now aiming to help agriculture meet those challenges while also speeding up innovation.
It’s called the California Agricultural Research and Innovation Roadmap. The plan is being rolled out by a coalition of agricultural, academic and industry partners, and the goal is to help move research and discoveries out of the lab and into real use on farms and ranches.
The roadmap lays out research priorities for the next ten years, while also identifying innovation goals that will be updated every two years. Key focus areas include climate resilience, water management, pest and disease control, food safety, automation and data-driven farming, along with the economic pathways that help bring solutions to producers.
CDFA Secretary Karen Ross says, “No single institution can carry the future of agricultural research and innovation alone.”
The roadmap is still evolving, and producers are encouraged to share feedback as it moves forward.
