The National Sorghum Producers recently took part in the annual commodity classic, where they discussed priorities that the organization intends to work on for the rest of 2026. CEO Tim Lust talks about those priorities.

“We continue to push E15 across the finish line, one of the most important domestic policy items that could be done to create demand that doesn't just help with short term economic challenges, but works on economic challenges year after year after year. So you know, that's number one. Certainly, we have a farm bill that we have been working through, and while there's core parts of that bill that were passed and handled, there's still key components of that bill that haven't been handled.”

45z, the clean fuel production credit, has major potential to be a benefit for sorghum producers. However, lust says there are still obstacles to overcome,

“Something that was part of the big, beautiful bill, and something that we see as having real opportunity for our growers, going back into the biofuel industry, working on rules there, working through that process with Treasury. It's a program that's in place, but not known, and the details aren't known to where there's economic value at the farm gate level, and ultimately, it was a program that was really designed to bring economic value back to the farm gate.”
