Informed Planting Decisions Needed to Optimize Productivity

Beck's Hybrids agronomy education lead Matt Montgomery is urging soybean producers to think long term. He says a patient approach to planting decisions can pay off down the road.

“We're in an environment that really squeezes people into looking short-term, right? I think what's going to make the difference between those that survive and those that maybe survive, thrive, and those that struggle is really going to be those that are able to maintain the discipline of keeping an eye on the long term, thinking seasons ahead, rather than just several months ahead.”

With tight margins and trying to stay afloat. Montgomery offers up advice for producers on where to cut back.

“I do think there are opportunities to save when it comes to seeding rates. A lot of these places where we talk about trimming back really require information, and so you're going to need to sit down with your seed advisor, your dealer, have a conversation with them about what hybrids kind of handle a more moderate presentation, rather than a real high seeding rate. You're going to want to make sure you have that conversation with them to make sure you do that on the appropriate hybrid. Some hybrids need those higher seeding rates. Other ones actually don't, and so it takes real discipline and a conversation to do that.”

Once again, that was Matt Montgomery, the agronomy education lead with Beck’s Hybrids.
