NACD Elections Include Georgia Farmer and China Ag Report Quality over Quantity
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with your Agribusiness Update.**The National Association of Conservation Districts Board of Directors elected Mark Masters of southwest Georgia as the association’s President-Elect.
He will serve a one-year term as President-Elect alongside current NACD President, Gairy Blair, and will assume the President’s role in 2027.
Blair says Mark brings dedication to locally-led conservation, and the knowledge and leadership needed to help NACD achieve new horizons.
Masters is the Executive Director of the Georgia Water Planning and Policy Center.
**On February 3rd, Beijing released the annual No. 1 Document, outlining national strategies and measures related to agriculture and rural development.
While food security remains the top priority, the focus has shifted from pursuing quantity increases to striving for improvements in quality.
The document highlights the adoption of “new productive forces” such as artificial intelligence and robotics.
It also stressed diversifying import sources and the importance of coordinating ag imports with domestic production.
**The USDA reported that American hatcheries increased placements of eggs and chicks during the week ending February 14.
Hatcheries set 254 million eggs in incubators that week, which the agency says is up 2% year-over-year.
The average hatchability, the number of chicks hatched by eggs three weeks earlier, was 79%.
Georgia had the largest number of broiler-type eggs, at 36.3 billion. Followed by Alabama at 35.9 billion, and Arkansas at 26.7 billion.
