The US, Mexico, and Canada. Free Trade Agreement remains a key priority for pork producers, and the National Pork Producers Council has submitted formal comments emphasizing the importance of the US-Mexico Free Trade Agreement. Maria Zieba, vice president of government affairs with the National Pork Producers Council, says the agreement has been a major success story for us pork exports and continues to deliver clear benefits for producers.

“We are seeing about a quarter of our exports that are that go to both Canada and Mexico. Mexico imports about $2 billion of pork and pork products in 2024 Canada, about 850 million. And we want to continue to have that continuity. And I think that this is a great opportunity for the administration and President Trump to cement something and put his his name on something that was very well done under his previous tenure, and we would hope that we continue to have this engagement, and that they that he recognizes how good a job his team did the first time around.”

Zieba says that NPPC will continue working on the policy side to ensure farmers and producers are well represented and that the administration clearly understands the industry's priorities.
