Tree Fruit Day in Olympia
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. Tree Fruit Day in Olympia on Wednesday, January 28th is fast approaching and if you haven’t signed up yet, now is the time.Washington State Tree Fruit Association president, Jon DeVaney says it’s a great opportunity to educate lawmakers about what you do and what you need …
DeVANEY … “Absolutely! I mean, that is part of perseverance. The rules and the laws can be frustrating. Politics exasperates a lot of people, and they want to just throw their hands up and walk away. But you have to persevere and stay engaged. Keep telling legislators and regulators what your concerns are and how those effect you.”
DeVaney says lawmakers need to know …
DeVANEY … “You can’t expect them to understand it intuitively if you don’t tell them. So, we want to make sure that we have a good group of growers again, coming to Olympia, to share that with legislators from across the state.”
And, DeVaney says don’t be afraid …
DeVANEY … “It’s not scary. It sounds challenging because if you watch too much TV news coverage where they yell at each other, you think that’s what you’re going to be thrown into. But legislators across the spectrum are uniformly respectful and polite, and appreciative of real people coming to talk to them about their experiences.”
So, to sign up for Tree Fruit Day in Olympia on January 28th? …
DeVANEY … “Just go to the Tree Fruit Association website, www.wstfa.org under events and sign up for Tree Fruit Day.”
