A Big Pour for the Southeast
If you live anywhere across the Southeast, the milk you pour on your cereal may soon have a connection to south Georgia. On December 2, Walmart celebrated the grand opening of its new milk processing facility in Valdosta, a city of about 55,000 people. The company calls it a major milestone, one that brings more than 400 new jobs to the area and represents a $350 million investment. The state-of-the-art facility spans more than 300,000 square feet and is designed to strengthen Walmart’s supply chain for affordable, high-quality milk.
Milk sourced directly from local dairy farmers will be processed and bottled at the Valdosta facility. The plant will produce gallons and half-gallons of whole, 2 percent, 1 percent, skim, and 1 percent chocolate milk for Walmart’s Great Value brand and Sam’s Club Member’s Mark brand. Those products will supply more than 650 Walmart stores and Sam’s Clubs across the Southeast.
“This new facility has innovation at its core,” said Walmart Vice President for Manufacturing Bruce Heckman. “It will bolster our capacity to meet the demand for high-quality milk.”
Walmart says the investment reinforces its commitment to U.S. manufacturing and local sourcing.
