Another Major Funding Boost for Dairy Climate Projects
And the money awards keep rolling in. Just last week I shared news of similar funding, and now we are adding a few more zeroes behind the dollar signs for projects focused on cutting methane emissions and improving water quality here in California. The California Department of Food and Agriculture has announced 26.8 million dollars in federal funding for 23 on farm projects through the Dairy Plus Program. The funding supports dairy farmers as they adopt manure management practices that reduce emissions and protect water quality. An additional 7.8 million dollars in state climate funds is being leveraged to help match that investment.
CDFA Secretary Karen Ross says, “Supporting dairy and livestock producers in their drive to implement sustainable practices while continuing to provide nutritious, local food for California is more important now than ever.”
These projects are expected to reduce emissions by 124,000 metric tons each year. CDFA estimates methane reduction efforts have already delivered about 27.43 million metric tons of lifetime emissions reductions.
