From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s fruit Grower Report. Blueberry production in Washington state continues to climb with 2025 coming in close to, if not equal, to last year’s record crop of 210 million pounds.

Alan Schreiber, Executive Director of the Washington Blueberry Commission, shared the good news recently at the Lynden Ag Show …

SCHREIBER … “So far, we’ve collected assessments on 184 million, so if we don’t get any more assessments in, we still would have the second biggest crop on record.”

But Schreiber says even though the deadline was October 31, there are still some assessments that haven’t come in yet …

SCHREIBER … “If you take the people that didn’t pay yet, add up their 2024 production and just assume they’re going to be flat, we would come in at 207 million pounds. But, again, that’s just me being brave with a spread sheet. But I’m reasonably sure we’re going to come in between 200 and 210 million pounds. So, that’s a big number.”

And then, Schreiber breaks down the fresh to frozen ratio …

SCHREIBER … “If we get to 200 million pounds in 2025, we estimate that 75% is processed, that’s 150 million pounds. At the beginning of the year, I had projected 70% processed and 30% fresh.”

Schreiber told blueberry growers, “Holy smokes, you all knocked it out of the park.

Since joining the commission in 2006, Schreiber has seen Washington state blueberry production grow 12-fold.

Washington is the top state for blueberry production.
