Today is part two of our two-part series with R-CALF United Stock Growers of America, CEO Bill Bullard. The organization filed a private antitrust case six years ago that's still moving through the courts, complementing the President's new meat packer investigation announcement during the President's first term, a similar review into Packer conduct was launched following the COVID-19 outbreak.

“To our knowledge, that investigation is still open, and so we believe that they've probably been watching these private actions because they're being well represented by law firms that are very credible and have the resources to pursue these cases. So it would make sense for the government to conserve its resources and watch as these private actions unfold. So any way you cut this, this is exactly what we need for our cattle industry and for our sheep industry.”

Bullard says R-CALF hopes to work closely with the administration to share information and help restore fair competition in the beef and lamb supply chains so producers are compensated fairly.

“The investigation has been called for. We don't know that the level of staffing available to initiate that investigation, but we do know that much of the groundwork has been laid, as I indicated, under the first Trump administration.”
