Today kicks off part one of a two-part series discussing the President's recent announcement to launch an investigation into meat packers, RCALF, United Stock Growers of America. CEO, Bill Bullard says they've been calling on the last four administrations to take action and examine the nation's meat supply chains, which is to examine the nation's meat supply chains.

“We've alleged for years that there has been a disconnect between the price of cattle and the price of beef. In fact, more recently, we had cattle prices that were falling all the way through about 2021, and at the same time that cattle prices were falling, beef prices were reaching record highs. And it wasn't until the latest shock that hit our system, and of course, that was the widespread drought that occurred at the latter part of 2020, that the cattle prices broke free from the restraints that they were under in the marketplace and started to chase beef prices upward.”

Bullard says that producers are now seeing record prices across the industry, adding to the urgency behind the investigation.

“What portion of these higher beef prices is the result of anti trust and anti-competitive practices in our highly concentrated meat supply chain.”
