**International Paper will be closing its plants in Savannah and Riceboro by the end of the month.

www.gfb.org reports the closures represent a massive blow to an area still reeling in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which swept through the state one year ago tomorrow.

The permanent closure of the facilities will affect approximately 1,000 hourly and salaried employees.

The company will offer severance packages, along with outplacement assistance for eligible employees.

**The Senate confirmed three nominees for critical positions at the USDA.

These nominees all received bipartisan support when they were considered by their respective committees.

The three USDA nominees include Richard Fordyce as Under Secretary for Farm Production and Conservation; Dudley Hoskins as the Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs; and Scott Hutchins as the Under Secretary of Agriculture for Research, Education, and Economics.

**The Department of the Interior and USDA announced a coordinated action to create the U.S. Wildland Fire Service to modernize wildfire management nationwide.

Fire seasons are longer, fire intensity is increasing, and suppression and recovery costs are soaring.

Interior Secretary, Doug Burgum says too often we have witnessed the devastating consequences of wildfires caused by mismanagement and a lack of preparedness.

Order 3443 directs the establishment of a plan for implementation in January.
