From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. The much-anticipated recommendations from the Make America Healthy Commission will be released soon and American ag groups are watching closely.
American Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall says seeing what recommendations the commission is able to put together will be interesting …
DUVALL … “The Make America Healthy Again Commission will soon release its “Make Our Children Healthy Again Strategy.” Farmers and ranchers share the goal of healthier outcomes, and we’re committed to growing safe food for all families.”
Getting input from the farmers and ranchers and other stakeholders from around the country, Duvall says should be how this is done …
DUVALL … “We were troubled, however, that the commission did not seek growers’ input when drafting the initial assessment. By not reaching out to the men and women who help keep America’s pantries stocked and not relying on sound science, the commission published an inconsistent and sometimes inaccurate assessment.”
Bottom line, Duvall says communications is the key to making this work …
DUVALL … “We appreciate that commission members have engaged with agriculture since then. We urge the commission to ensure policy recommendations enhance - rather than hinder - the ability of America’s farmers to grow safe and affordable food.”
