Cherries 2025 Mid-Season Pt 1
From the Ag Information Network, this is today’s Fruit Grower Report. Northwest cherry harvest is in full swing with the crop easily living up to preseason estimates of 21-22 million boxes early on.Karley Lange, Domestic Promotions Director at Northwest Cherries, says things are going great …
LANGE … “The season’s been off to a very strong start. We’ve had more volume in the front end of the season than I’ve seen in a long time.”
And compared to last year, Lange says we’re ahead of schedule …
LANGE … “We’re probably over a million boxes over where we were last year at this point. So, it’s ramped up very quickly. I mean everybody said it was coming off quick, but we didn’t realize it was going to be quite this quick.”
As for the size and reported high quality of this year’s crop …
LANGE … “Sizing has been excellent this year and least 83-84% of what we’ve shipped has been 10-and-a-half row and larger. Quality, I’ve been hearing the same thing, it’s fantastic. The fruit is eating good, which is awesome because if you have a big volume year, we need good fruit to help move it, right?”
And aside from a little rain recently, Lange says the weather has been good too …
LANGE … “But I haven’t heard of any damage from that. I know the heat early on kind of impacted the early, early growers a little bit, but other than that I really haven’t heard of any damage which is awesome at this time in the season.”
Tune in tomorrow for more on northwest cherry harvest.
