Vidalia Onion Season Has Officially Arrived
Get ready to sweeten up your meals—Vidalia onion season is officially here. As of April 15, Georgia’s world-famous sweet onions have begun shipping to grocery stores across the country. Grown in a uniquely designated 20-county region of South Georgia, Vidalias are prized for their crisp, sweet flavor, which results from a combination of specific weather patterns and soil conditions found only in that part of the world.Despite facing a tropical storm, hurricane, floods, and even six inches of snow during the growing season, the 2025 crop has pulled through with only minor damage. Ten thousand acres were planted this year, and farmers say they’re proud to uphold the tradition and quality that consumers have come to expect.
Available only from mid-April through early September, Vidalias are carefully hand-planted, harvested, and cured to ensure top-tier flavor and freshness. Their official name and growing region are protected by the Vidalia Onion Act of 1986.
From salads to sizzling side dishes, Vidalias bring a touch of Georgia sunshine to every plate—and as of now, they’re back in season.
