USDA Citrus Forecast Holds Steady for Oranges, Rises for Grapefruit
The latest numbers are in from the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service—and for Florida citrus, there’s not much movement in oranges, but a bit of a bump in grapefruit. The 2024–2025 Florida all-orange forecast remains unchanged at 11.6 million boxes. If those numbers hold, that’s 36 percent less than last season’s revised production. The total includes 4.60 million boxes of non-Valencia oranges—that’s your early, mid-season, and Navel varieties—and 7.00 million boxes of Valencia oranges.
Grapefruit production, on the other hand, is ticking upward. The forecast of all grapefruit is now 1.30 million boxes, up by 100,000 boxes. Breaking that down further, white grapefruit is up by 10,000 boxes, and red grapefruit sees the bigger jump—up 90,000 boxes.
It’s been a tough few years for citrus growers, and every box, every bit of good news, truly matters. We’re here, keeping an eye on the trends with you. Full report details, visit https://www.nass.usda.gov/Statistics_by_State/Florida/Publications/Citrus/Citrus_Forecast/2024-25/cit0425.pdf
