Beef Still Top Protein Pt 2

From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. Beef continues to be the number one protein for American consumers in terms of sales, but factor in the price and chicken is a bit more in terms of volume in 2024.

But Mike Simone, executive director of market research at the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, says consumers say beef still gives them a lot of value for the price …

SIMONE … “By and large, consumers, when they rate the proteins, beef tends to be top by and far, by 57-60 percent typically. Most of the time, a good 20-plus points higher than chicken in terms of those rankings, so I think that's a major influence.”

Consumers, Simone says are buying with their taste buds …

SIMONE … “To begin with, price is important, but they all have that experience. It's irreplaceable and comfortable and consumers know that, and they appreciate that.”

Bottom line, beef is getting better …

SIMONE … “And the quality of the beef is just that much better than it was 20-30 years ago, and consumers know that. They appreciate that. They continue to open their wallets and buy our product.”

And the NCBA website can help in that regard …

SIMONE … “We continue to focus on the value and versatility convenience factor for beef and what you can do with it at ‘beefitswhatsfordinner.com,’ in terms of recipe development and what you can do with leftovers and trying to compete with chicken in that regard as well.”

Again, Mike Simone is with NCBA.
