Just updated from the USDA, a food price outlook for 2025 and, if you’re like many, your eyes are going to scan for one item: eggs. What is the executive department of United States agriculture anticipating?

Well, as with anything, whether or not this is good news or poor news depends upon whether you are buying or selling.

First, a look back: Retail egg prices increased by 8.4 percent in December 2024 and continue to experience volatile month-to-month changes.

Now, a look forward: Egg prices are predicted to increase 20.3 percent in 2025, with a prediction interval of 0.1 to 45.3 percent.

Bigger picture, the USDA reports that in 2025, prices for most food categories are predicted to change at a rate below their 20-year historical average. While there is a margin around these prediction percentages, 2025 is expected to see dairy product prices up 1.3%, beef and veal prices up 1.5%, and the price of fresh fruits up by .7%.
