**As shocking images of the fire-blasted hills around Los Angeles demonstrate, wildfires have become an increasing concern, particularly in regions where suppression strategies have dominated for decades.

Prescribed burns are carried out under strict regulations in the Southeast, but legal thresholds are much more lenient than those in the West.

**The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service is extending the New Swine Inspection System increased line speed trials through May 15th.

The National Pork Producers Council called it a “win for efficiency” in feeding a growing population and alleviating supply issues.

**Egg Production in the United States totaled 9.12 billion in December, down 3% from 2023.

Production included 7.83 billion table eggs and 1.29 billion hatching eggs.

The total number of layers in December averaged 373 million, down 3%.

December egg production per 100 layers was 2,448 eggs, 1% lower than December 2023.

All layers on January 1st totaled 369 million, down 2% from last year.
