Today’s responsibility of a farmer goes beyond just producing food for the world; society is asking them to provide ecosystem services. Kris Johnson, director of agriculture at The Nature Conservancy believes as stewards of our working lands, farmers must be a part of the conversation in solving climate issues.

Johnson… “There are critical challenges facing our farmers, facing our ranchers, facing all of us that are looking to a future where we have clean water, access to sufficient water, and we still have the tremendous biodiversity that, you know, we all enjoy and sort of take for granted in our world. And so, you know, I kind of bring it back to that agriculture and improving how we manage working lands has a huge role to play in solving those challenges. You know, there's nearly a billion acres of, of agricultural land in the U. S. alone. And so they have a huge potential impact and benefit in terms of tackling climate change and providing solutions to these other problems. So, So, with that in mind, how do we scale up, increase the pace of adoption, of transitioning and transforming the way we manage our lands to get to kind of a new normal where we're managing soils in a way that can build resilience and reduce, you know, nutrient loss and store carbon and all these sorts of things.”

Again, that’s The Nature Conservancy’s Kris Johnson.
