From the Ag Information Network, this is today’s Fruit Grower Report. Save Family Farming is working on a second documentary that will focus on the workers behind ag production.

Titled “Farming on the Brink,” Executive Director, Ben Tindall says it will be out soon and focus on a Wapato farmer who is facing do or die decisions related to labor …

TINDALL … “And the need and desire to make sure they protect and provide their employees and the workers on their farm, but also just the cost that that’s having to the operation and are we able to maintain the heightened regulations, the increased costs, overtime issues and the increased regulations that are coming just about every session with the legislature. So, they’re really having to take a hard look at, can we keep doing this.”

And for the men and women who do the work, Tindall says this is huge …

TINDALL … “The big issue that we’re really trying to, really highlight and tell is the farmworker’s story, the families, the workers, the labor on the farm, what they’re facing because a lot of these individuals, they want more work, they want the hours.”

Tindall says it’s one thing to hear all of this from the farmers or to hear it from him, but …

TINDALL … “It’s another thing for the farmworker who is sharing their story and how this is impacting them directly. That’s the story that needs to be heard.”
