Dog Short Stories I think everyone likes dog stories, so I have some to share with you today. I'm Jeff Keane; I'll be back in one minute. Through the years I've heard quite a few stories about ranch dogs and their little quirks and achievements. A lot of farmers and ranchers milked cows for a little extra money years ago so these stories are about dogs and milk cows. Laddie was my uncle's dog and he was smart, in fact, he humbled my cousin and me on one job. We were just old enough to go gather the milk cows, but not old enough that a gopher hole or maybe an anthill didn't divert our attention from the job at hand. We searched the pasture high and low and concluded the cows got out and went home to tell my uncle and granddad they would surely have to fix some fence. Turned out they wouldn't have had time since they were already milking cows. Laddie figured we had wasted enough time, found the cows and brought them to the barn. How did he know the cows were in that old shed we walked right by? Sis was a dog a friend's family had they could go in and out of the door any number of times a day and Sis paid no attention, but if they walked out the door with a milk pail, Sis went after the milk cows post haste. Now Sailor was a dog my Dad's uncles had that got the milk cows on command. But Sailor figured running after the cows was work enough so when he got them lined out for home he would grab the tail of the last cow swing up to her back and proudly ride home. I'll bet the last cow never gave much milk. I'm Jeff Keane.
