Carolina's in Drought and Beef Export Values Highest in a Year

**South Carolina Ag Commissioner Hugh Weathers says parts of his state saw a little rain recently after a month of almost none.

North Carolina Farm Service Agency Director Bob Etheridge says the damage to some crops is irreversible.

Just a few weeks ago, both states had some talking about bumper crops.

99 of North Carolina's 100 counties are in drought or abnormally dry conditions. That's the case in all 46 South Carolina counties.

**U.S. beef export value topped $900 million in May, the highest since June of last year.

According to U.S. Meat Export Federation data, U.S. beef exports totaled over 110,000 metric tons, down 5% from a year ago but the second most in 2024.

Beef export VALUE reached $902.4 million in May, 3% higher than last year and the highest in 11 months.

Exports trended higher year-over-year to Japan, Mexico, Asia, the Middle East, Caribbean, and Central America.

**Farmers National Company says the agricultural land market has been exceptional over the past five years, with value gains in all classes of land in every region of the country.

FNC Senior VP Paul Shadegg says into the second half of 2023 and this year, we’ve experienced significant increases in interest rates, declining grain markets, and inflation.

Despite the negative pressures, Shadegg says the land market has been relatively resilient.
