Washington Ag July 27, 2006 The McGregor Company of Garfield, Washington, has been named the national winner of the Environmental Respect Award for 2006. That award is the industry's highest recognition for environmental stewardship among U.S. ag retailers who provide farmers and ranchers with nutrients, pest control, and agronomic information and services. Ted Deerkop, McGregor area manager for Garfield, Palouse and Colfax, who accepted the award at a special Capitol Hill ceremony last week, explains what it means to be selected as the national winner.
Deerkop: "It means to us that people are paying attention to what we have done to protect the environment. That this is something that we take extremely seriously and it has made me very proud that people notice it."
The McGregor Company was selected from among the U.S. Regional Winners based on criteria that include excellence in site design, in-plant storage and handling procedures, proper application, leadership in environmentalism, and safety and stewardship among customers and employees. This was the fifth national award for the McGregor Company.
As a national winner, Deerkop will have the opportunity to visit an international winner's location on an agriculture tour next year.
