Kathleen SMITH, CEO of Life Essentials, travels around the country, helping farmers and ranchers with a number of challenges. One such problem is for farmers and ranchers who are disabled and have difficulty getting into a combine, a truck or a tractor. She retrofits these machines with lifts to help them get into the cabs. But she also has concerns about other areas of agriculture, which led me to pose a question.

The old bumper sticker, no farm, no food. Yeah, exactly. Is that what's happening? For one thing, I don't know. Everybody's against this genetically modified. But if we had to go back to using the seeds and stuff that they used a hundred and fifty years ago, a hundred years ago, the world would starve. They, of course, modified things where you get higher yields out of even just a small amount of land. But I don't know if they're I think they'll find other ways. There's lots of things that I don't think the farmer will disappear. Now, whether the farmer can support the world's population as far as food, that's a whole nother subject. But I think a lot of people are are worried about that. But I'm not extremely they just get more out of one acre than they used to. So, you know, some of the farmland loss is made up because of the amount of how much they get out of an acre. Interesting comment about the importance of GMOs.
