Climate Smart Livestock Pt 2
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. Cattle ranchers and dairy farmers are doing far more to improve their impact on our climate than they get credit for, and do much less to damage than many believe.
And, Cargill Animal Nutrition’s Leo Gondim (gon-DEEM) says the industry is still strong and beef and dairy products aren’t going to be replaced any time soon …
GONDIM … “There’s no way that the farmer cannot be successful because there is a demand, there is a growing demand up there, so it’s really how you do that.”
To that end, Gondim says there are likely to be more and better ways to be profitable in the years ahead …
GONDIM … “We’re looking for alternative ways to increase profitability or to make additional revenues. Having the right people on your farm, people that can help you to figure out ways to do that, I think this is crucial.”
With high-tech advancements will help make better, faster decisions …
GONDIM … “That’s what makes me very optimistic about in general, right, and in livestock and production because, as I said, demand isn’t going away. It’s only going to increase actually.”
But, a world without beef or dairy, Gondim says …
GONDIM … “I mean, in generations to come, who knows what’s going to change, but we don’t foresee a future that people would just eating meat or just stop drinking milk or eating cheese. We don’t think that’s going to happen.”
Gondim says as the world population continues to grow, so will demand.
