06/19/06 Chinese media at WSU: ID group picked

Washington Ag June 19, 2006 Sixteen members of the Chinese media who have the potential of reaching more than 300 million people in China, are visiting Washington State University in Pullman today. Andrea Young of WSU's IMPACT Center, says the visit is part of a week-long tour of Washington agriculture. Young: "And they are actually making a video tape which they will take back with them that will focus on Washington agricultural products and also we are hoping to get a little bit of information in there about Washington State University and the research we are doing here." One of stops at the Pullman campus will be the School of Hospitality. Young: "We have a cook that will doing a demonstration on a rustic cherry cobbler to show them how we use cherries here in the United States. And we also have them going to the creamery here at WSU and Ferdinand's to see the dairy portion of agriculture here in the state." The tour of the Chinese Journalists is sponsored by the Washington State Fruit Commission. As required by a law adopted last legislative session, Washington State Ag Director Valoria Loveland has appointed twenty people to the National Animal Identification System Advisory Group. Those appointed are listed on the ag department's website. (see below) The group will submit a report to the legislature by this December.
