From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. In the first 10 months of 2022, beef export VALUE increased 18% from last year’s record pace to reach $10.05 billion, topping $10 billion for only the second time. January-October export VOLUME was 1.25 million mt, up 4% from a year ago.

U.S. Meat Export Federation Chairman, Dean Meyer says with another challenging year ahead, the industry will still meet domestic demand …

MEYER … “The priority is to take care of our domestic needs here, and we will, but it’s also important to utilize that whole carcass. And the value that we create at USMEF is tremendous. I mean, $60-plus per head is added to a carcass just in the variety meats and underutilized cuts. And on pork, it’s over $10 a head.”

Meyer says they’ve navigated the challenges …

MEYER … “You know, we had port issues, transportation issues and it’s amazing, COVID, and how we’ve been able just to increase our sales. We realize it’s probably not going to stay in that trajectory. We got a 20% increase in value this year alone in beef … tremendous.”

Meyer says they’ll continue spreading the wealth …

MEYER … “We don’t rely on one or two markets. You know, we’ve got staff in 18 countries around the world.

Whether its and emerging market like Africa or Central and South America, for the mature markets, that’s where we emphasize.”

Meyer says he’s confident we’ll all be able to enjoy our steaks and bacon.
